Lailah Dunbar-Keeys, M.S., M.Ed. is an educator who aligns social science with spirituality for a holistic view of the challenges and concerns of our world. As a diversity, equity, and inclusion professional, her primary focus is racial justice and the ways in which race intersects with class, gender, sex (sexuality, sexual identity, and sexual orientation), religion, age, and ability.
Through courses, consulting and coaching, Lailah supports leaders who are committed to radical transformation. Radical change may be inspired externally, but it happens internally and its result is felt in the world. Lailah’s workshops combine lecture with interactive lessons that encourage self-awareness, an understanding of our society, and our purpose in it. Lailah also serves youth through lessons that develop self-awareness, self-confidence, and a deeper sense of purpose.
With over twenty-five years of experience in higher education, Lailah serves as the Director of the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging at Cabrini University. For twenty years, she taught sociology at Community College of Philadelphia. In addition, she served as the assistant director of academic support at Thomas Jefferson (Philadelphia) University and held an adjunct faculty position in the Department of African American Studies at Temple University. With a team of colleagues, she was an editor for the School District of Philadelphia's African American Studies curriculum.
Currently, Lailah is studying for a Master of Divinity degree at United Lutheran Seminary. Her spiritual development is a result of more than thirty years studying comparative religion; researching Eastern and African philosophy; practicing Christianity, Islam and Religious Science; and gaining licensing as a spiritual life coach (practitioner) with the Center of Peace, Center for Spiritual Living.
Formerly a journalist, Lailah edited the educational supplement, “The Learning Key,” for the Philadelphia Tribune newspaper. A social studies tool for local educators, it won the National Newspaper Publisher’s award for best educational supplement three times under her direction. Continuing to put her research and perspectives in writing, Lailah's first book, “I AM ONE,” reinforces, through spiritual principles, the unlimited power and potential of children.
Lailah holds master’s degrees in educational administration and continuing education from Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in communications with an emphasis in African American Studies and sociology from Temple University.
