Sacred Womanism: Healing Circles for Holistic Wellness
Sacred Womanism: Healing Circles for Holistic Wellness are inspired by the Alice Walker quote, “Womanism is to feminism as purple is to lavender.” This colorful statement creatively implies the depth and complexity of the journey of Black women in the United States and throughout the African Diaspora. As mothers of ancient civilizations who are often overlooked in contemporary society, African American women encounter distinct challenges that require innovative approaches. Participants will engage in curated discussions rooted in scripture, African proverbs, and the contributions of Black American history and philosophy, while experiencing affirmative prayer, guided meditation, sacred visioning, reflective journaling, and other wellness modalities. Potential topics include self-love, radical self-awareness, internalized oppression, colorism, sacred relationships, and collective liberation, among others. Potential partners include organizations that serve the needs of women.
